The Types and Subtypes of Lab Grown Diamonds

types of lab grown diamond

Crystallizing carbon to produce Lab Grown Diamond is a replicated earth process to produce a diamond.

There are mainly Two Different Types of Lab-Grown Diamonds.

Types of Lab Grown diamonds

  1. Stimulant Diamonds
  2. Cultured Diamonds

The Lab Grown diamond types have further subtypes which are mentioned as follows along with the two major types.

Simulant Diamonds

The constituents of stimulant diamonds are not made from scratch. They are made in the lab and the difference between them and the naturally mined diamond is probably not visible to the naked eye. Their chemical and physical properties are different from those of mined diamonds. The components used to make these man-made diamonds are Cut glass, zircon and white sapphires were used to make the Lab Grown Diamonds.

1.Diamond Nexus Stimulants

The chief constituent element of diamond nexus stimulants is Carbon and other additional ingredients are added to it. These stimulants have a triple lifetime guarantee compared to real diamonds due to their extreme durability.

2. Cubic Zirconia Stimulants

These diamond stimulants are produced from zirconium dioxide. They are known to be of the least durable type of stimulant diamonds. They are also the least pricey of the stimulant diamonds.

3. Moissanite Lab created gemstones

These diamond stimulants are synthesized from silicon carbide. These kinds of stones are very strong and thus they are priced highly. The look moissanite is also different as it is a gemstone.

Cultured Diamonds

All the constituents of Cultured diamonds are created from scratch and are created in an environment that represents the environment in the diamond mines. Thus these Lab-Grown Diamonds have a very similar physical and chemical characteristics to that of natural diamonds. These diamonds are specially inscribed with a number so that it can be known that is not real so that they cannot be used for resale or insurance purposes. These diamonds are created using two methods: CVD and HPHT.

1.  HPHT Diamonds

HPHT stands for High-pressure High temperature. These diamonds are made in a controlled lab environment similar to the environment favourable for the production of mined diamonds. There are three major press designs used to supply the pressure and the temperature required to produce synthetic diamonds namely: the cubic press, the split-sphere press and the belt press.

2. CVD Diamonds

CVD stands for chemical vapour deposition. CVD Diamonds are grown from a hydrocarbon gas mixture by the chemical vapour deposition method. This method is used more in industrial applications because of the flexibility and the simplicity of the process. This method is the preferred process for the mass-production of diamond crystals. This method improves the control over the chemical impurities of the diamonds.

In conclusion, there are two main distinctions of Lab Grown diamonds made in labs. Lab-grown diamonds made by CVD and HPHT methods have the chemical properties just like real diamonds. People are choosing them over real mined diamonds because they are cruelty-free and are 20-30% cheaper.
